Born in 1928. Studied at the Sir J.J School of Art, Mumbai; in Paris and in New York as recipient of a Rockefeller Scholarship in 1965. Received the Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowship in 1969. Recipient of Lalit Kala Ratna from Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi in 2004. Aretrospective of his work was held in Mumbai and Delhi in 1980. Founded the Vision Exchange Workshop for artists and film-makers. Has held exhibitions of his photographs, and made short films.
