Born in 1957, John obtained a G.D. Art (Painting) at the Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai. Recipient of a Research Grant Scholarship from the Lalit Kala Akademi .His work is in the collection of the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi.
