Born in 1972, Nidhi Agarwal
studied at the College of Art, Delhi. Awards received by her
include the Yuva Mahotsava and Sahitya Kala Parishad award,
AIFACS award, ITDC award and a Ravi Jain Annual scholarship.
She has held several exhibitions of her work in India, Germany
and the USA. She has participated in group shows and camps
organized by the Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi, as well as
Bharat Bhawan, Bhopal and various private galleries in India
and overseas.
Nidhi works in various media like oils, acrylics, charcoal,
pastels, rice paper, silver foil, pen and ink, as well as
waste material. On the canvas she uses a thick impasto technique;
the painting forms through a series of layered paints besides
pouring, splashing and even squeezing the tubes directly onto
the canvas. The end result is a highly textured surface. Her
choice of palette is very bright, vivid and electrifying.
There is a strange but breathtaking contrast between the colour
surface and the designed forms.
