Born in 1925. Painter, sculptor and muralist. Studied at Mayo College of Art, Lahore, and the Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai. Recipient of National Awards of the Lalit Kala Akademi for painting and sculpture, Mexico’s International Leonardo da Vinci Award for Life Time Achievement, the Order of the Crown from the Belgian Government for his design of the Belgian Embassy in India, and the Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India. Several books have been published on the artist and his work. A retrospective of his work was held by the National Gallery of Modern Art, Delhi, in 2006.
