Born in 1925. Painter, sculptor and muralist. Studied at Mayo College of Art, Lahore, and at the Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai. Recipient of National Awards from the Lalit Kala Akademi for painting and sculpture; Mexico’s International Leonardo da Vinci Award for Lifetime Achievement; the Order of the Crown from the Belgian Government in India for his design of the Belgian Embassy in India; and the Padma Vibhushan from the Government of India. Several books have been published on the artist and his work. A retrospective of his work was held by the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, in 2006.
